A man who escaped from a Puerto Rican prison almost 40 years ago was arrested in Florida, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s office.

Jorge Milla -valdes escaped from a Puerto Rican prison in 1987. The Department of Justice of Puerto Rico believed he lived under the name of Luis Aguirre.

His criminal history included theft and aggravated aggression with a mortal weapon in the County of Monroe de Florida, according to the Sheriff’s office.

The LCSO Fugitive Guarantees Unit searched Milla-Valdes and obtained the original digital footprints of 1986 of Puerto Rico, and a set of his criminal history in Monroe County.

“The latent fingerprint supervisor, Tina Carver, accelerated the comparison of digital footprints. 15 minutes later, and use digital footprints that were taken 40 years ago, the supervisor Carver was able to match the impressions, and confirm that Aguirre and Milla-Valdes were the same individual who had escaped,” said the Sheriff’s office.

The fugitive unit was informed of the party and Milla-Valtes was arrested two hours later in Ft. Myers Shores, according to the Sheriff’s office.

“They don’t love me. They told me about twice,” Milla-Valdes told the officers while they were arrested, shows the police footage of the police.

“Now they do it. They changed their minds,” said an arrest officer.

The Sheriff applauded the rapid response of his unit.

“My team’s ability is unmatched at all levels; even if their crimes do not start here in Lee County, I promise, they will end here,” said the Sheriff of Lee County, Carmine Marceno, in a statement.
