Michigan reports the first measles outbreak of the State since 2019, defined as at least three or more related cases, according to the Department of Human Health and Human Services of Michigan (MDHHHS).
Three cases were confirmed in Montcalm County, according to a MDHHS statement.
Almost 25% of children under 3 years in Montcalm Count MDHHS vaccination data. The State informs a total of seven cases so far this year, including those infected with the outbreak.
Centers for disease control and prevention (CDC) have separately confirmed At least five other states with measles outbreaks, including Texas, New Mexico, Ohio, Kansas and Indiana.
At the national level, there are more than 700 measles cases in at least 24 states. That is the highest number since 2019, which saw 1,274 cases. Texas constitutes most of those cases with more than 560 infections, including two deaths among children not vaccinated in school age.

Health officials have urged anyone who is not vaccinated to receive the MMR vaccine.

In the decade before the 1963 measles vaccine, it is estimated three to four million people They were infected every year, according to CDC, with between 400 and 500 deaths.
